Title: IKEA Benno CD Tower Repository Fix
Post by: HugeLunatic on October 12, 2009, 01:37:01 PM
Ok so the three Benno CD Towers...one would think they are repository.  Not quite.  I found that the Left and Right are, but the Center was not.  This one took a lot of searching and I still don't know why EAMaxis one is not taking the color, so I've created an override for it to force it to be a slave to the LEFT Tower.

Update:  I've updated the file to include the center and right tower since for some the right was not properly taking recolors.  If you have had this issue please redownload.

The only colors you need are for the LEFT CD Tower!

UPDATED:  13-Nov-09  I've updated the file and it appears to work for those who it wasn't before.  I've no idea what the conflict was but it works still for me plus for those who the original wasn't.  This version has a different filename (v2) so please don't have both in your game.

I just LOVE all your repository stuff!!!
 :love

However...
I've run into a small glitch with these (I DL'd them when you first put them up, but last night was the first time I tried to use them...
I'm sorry this took me so long to find.) For some reason the Rt CD tower is not picking up any recolors!?? I re-DL'd your fix - in case I messed it up somehow - and I know I have the correct installation; but the Rt tower doesn't have any CC recolors. The left and middle towers do (I'm using Miss Piggi's recolors, and I deleted all but the "Left" colors) Right?

What's up with this? Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!!!  :flowers

I'm kinda lost as to why this is.  I've had one other person mention this as well.  I have all my repository fixes in the CEP Extras folder since they pretty much do the same thing.  Everything shows for me.  MissPiggi's recolors  as well as my own test one I used when creating this.  I leave all MissPiggi recolors out at first since there are so many =).

So Vista/W7 has some permission issues with accessing some folders in Program Files, and if you placed them in the bins folder there could be an issue.  But the CEP Extras folder is in user Documents where you have full permissions.

So I'm curious as to what your OS is, where you put this, if your CEP is updated, and if you have tried this without any other cc.

I'm on Vista... (I actually like it - now. It took a while, guess maybe I'm used to it now.)

Inny-who... I have all your fixes in a subfolder of my Hacks folder in my downloads folder (so it's 3 deep - if that matters?) My CEP is the latest and greatest edition. And, I didn't check this specific issue without other CC.

I will try this file in my CEP-Extras folder and report back. Maybe that's all it needs.  :dunno

EDIT: OK, I tried it. It still doesn't work.  :no
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

This really stumps me, but maybe it's a permission/ownership issue.  A solution for some issues at MATY were to not install in your Program Files, but obvioulsy that would require a complete uninstall and reinstall.  An option for next time maybe.

The only thing that I can think of that might be different on mine than yours is that I have taken ownership of my folder.

Right click on Program Files/Ea Games and select properties.  Then the security tab/Advanced/Owner.  Click edit.  Chances are the owner is Administrator and not you.  Select your user profile and be sure to tick the box for replacing owner on subcontainers and objects.  Click apply, this may take a few minutes just let it do it's thing. Click ok all the way out when done.

Right click/Properties again, Security/Permissions.  Make sure your name here as Full control.  Otherwise click the change permissions button.

THis will allow anything to happen under your user profile in the Ea Games folder and subfolders.

Thanks for the info - I hope I didn't just mess everything up... but, I followed your directions and ticked off boxes like mad!!!  :eek

I am the ONLY owner/admin on my PC - but there has been confusion from the beginning with an administrator vs administrators account that the guys that built my machine had to have to install the OS. Whatever.

So... mayhaps this will fix it.  :beg

I'm off to check - I'll report back. THANKS!

I will try those steps as well, since I am having same issue.  Lastest version of Vista and the newest CEP.  This is the only fix not working.

If I place in the bins folder, it doesn't work at all, but will work on the left and middle if placed in the zCEP folder, but not the right.

I did see a suggestion to reinstall Sims2 directly into the C: drive and not let it put it in the C:\Programs(x86)\EAGames.

I might reinstall when my W7 comes next week.

Thank you everyone for letting me know about the issues you had with this!  :)  It appears it now works for everyone with the issue of the right tower not taking recolors.

I'm not sure of why it worked for some and not others.  I've replaced with the new one since it works for me as well.  So if you've had issues the new one should work for you.
