Title: Project Discussion
Post by: amythestfenix on March 17, 2013, 01:29:37 PM
A place to discuss the project!

I actually try not to use build/buy defaults but now that I know cardinal red is in the picture, I have to re-think this!
Actually just as a simmer who likes to share lots, build/buy defaults seem a little problematic... but just putting them in a folder... that can easily be removed... if I open the game to build... well, did you see how quickly I changed my mind?!?  :))

I already told Kiri but I'd like to help if I can, just let me know ;) Very excited about the project!

What about assignment by collections?
Like I could do the base game Moroccan pieces for example, using the prioritized woods but having a little freedom for fabric patterns? Maybe just "colorify" or "colorize" the original maxis textures. Those are GIMP words, I don't know what PS calls them. Or do you want solid cushions or stripe-on-stripe like Kiri mentioned somewhere?
I'm happy to help with anything, it doesn't have to be the Moroccan set and it doesn't have to be by collection, that's just kind of how I work :blush

I also thought the project might need a prioritized metals palette, maybe one for plumbing porcelain, I guess anything non-fabric and non-wood o.O

We should discuss how we want to do the "specialty collection" pieces, like the Moroccan ones or the Medieval ones, etc. I'd be happy to go with our wood priorities and leeway on fabrics to go with the theme of the collection. Shasta, I'd be happy to let you go ahead with that whole collection.

also @ Shasta,
I really like the metals you've been using for your lamps and would be happy to use them along with the one I use all the time which is darker than pewter, but not as dark as iron. Since I've already used it a lot, I'd really love it if we could make it priority 1.

As for collections, I'm currently messing about with BG seating and surfaces, so I'm deep in Value, Club, Colonial, and Country, and have discovered that it's really critical to replace the TXMTs as well as the textures to get a consistent look to the pieces. Since they'll all need to be done, I'm using extracted TXMTs from jonesi's blanket for fabric and buggybooz's kitchen basic for woods. Appliances should have a consistent one and so should plumbing porcelain and any metals (gold, silver, etc. usually have different ones to they can use different stdMatEnvCubes).

With the TXMTs replaced, there's a really good match here:

Before, the club sofas had strange blue and yellow overtones, and the desks were nowhere near the same color, which was especially apparent on the light colors.

@Kiri,
Since Shasta really likes cardinal red, perhaps we should move it up in priority. Currently, it's number 6, but I'd be willing to move it up as far as 4, if you'd think that's okay. I use it a lot, I just wasn't sure how popular/useful others would find it which is why it's at 6. At 4, it will be on just about everything.
Title: Re: Project Discussion
Post by: shastakiss on March 17, 2013, 10:37:39 PM
First of all, that pewter texture is beautiful! I love that it's right in between a silver and a black, so versatile! I hope it's the first choice for anything metal :wub

And please don't move cardinal red on my account! :scared I think inkwash grey and toffee gold should stay right where they are, they are just as versatile as that pewter and will go with so many things, cardinal will show up plenty as the 6th color.

And the preview of what you've done looks fabulous! (LOL at the yard full of furniture, who doesn't have about twenty of those kind of lots?) Is that your leather texture on the club sofa?

I'm afraid I need a little more info about TXMTs and matching them to the blanket? I'm familiar with editing TXMTs but how does the blanket come into it and does the blanket have more than one TXMT? I love how smart you are to know this and to know about stdMatEnvCubes, I love that I might get to learn it too.

I'll wait to see what Kiri thinks about this and that. I actually like a lot of the original textures, it's the unattractive and/or non-matching colors that EAxis applied to them that frustrates me.

I love the cardinal red and quite happy to move it up in priority. :D

Shasta, TXMTs are Material Definitions and every texture has one. It tells the game how shiny to make the object, what kind of reflection to give it, whether transparency is enabled, and often has MatEnvCubes that give it a golden or silvery or bluish sheen. I'm not an expert on these, more like someone stumbling in a dim closet, occasionally figuring out what something is or does   :))

I decided that rather than trying to deal with the completely non-matching TXMTs of EA items (two identical textures will look very different if the TXMTs of the objects are different), I would give all matching fabric defaults the same one. Since lots and lots of people recolor jonesi's blanket, having the plain fabrics in the game have the same "shininess" and color as the blanket will ensure that blanket-repository items will match our defaults. Anything made of leather or shiny fabric will get a different one (but all leather will get the SAME one, etc, unlike EA has done)

I decided to do the same thing for woods, and I chose buggybooz's Kitchen Basic counter's TXMT because I like its degree of "shininess" and lots of people have recolored it.

I have extracted these resources and will post them along with a little tutorial on how to replace one TXMT with another. I was surprised at how easy it was. Now you can just find an object with the kind of "shininess"  you want your recolor to match, extract and replace, and your new recolor will match perfectly. When I think of how much time I spent trying to get colors to match in game and failing, or struggling with shiny object I didn't want to be shiny.... :wacko

There should be a Wiki explaining the TXMT?

In the past, I've found that just manipulating the 3 coefficients is enough to set it right -

stdMatDiffCoef: n,n,n
stdMatEmissiveCoef: n,n,n
stdMatSpecCoef: n,n,n

where all the n's are a number between 0 and 1.

I believe - although it has been a very long time ago so I could be very wrong - that these coefficients control the Diffusive, Emissive and Specular coefficient.

Mathematics of Lighting (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb147178%28v=vs.85%29.aspx)
Have a look at this article, because it will make sense from the picture examples in the specific article.

But basically - The emissive coefficient  - 0,0,0 leaves the colour of the object as is. You can change the colour by adapting these values from your RGB I've found by dividing your RGB numbers by 255.
An interesting object to look at to see how this works -
Sandy's Ethnic Bedroom (http://sims2.aroundthesims3.com/objects/sets_bedroom/011/index.html) - the glass candle holders and the lotus. Neither of them have texture images that come with the recolour, yet you can modify the colour to any colour in the colour wheel by modifying the TXMT.

(Download (http://www.simthing.net/zips_downloads/spg/spgbed/MASATS_set_ethnicbedroom-pink.zip) - its up at SpG but you need to be a member - so I'm attaching it here so you can look at it to see the difference.)

The other two also effect the colour because it adds the highlights and shadows, and the shininess.

So yeah. Basically what Kate says is exactly right - and here's the science behind it. (Because I am a science geek).

Okley dokley - tomorrow I'm going to be a bit quiet, and get the Wallpaper-paint templates made up in our woods, AL-Friendly and non-ALFriendly versions, and post them up.

I'll also post up the textures from Michelle, and the templates from Shasta.

Now. When we're doing the paint - do you want to use the linen fabric texture for the paint, or the colour as a fill? (I think I'd prefer a  shrunk version of the linen - but I'm open to suggestions). Or do you want to do a noise-added version like these ones. These ones also have a 5% gradient to do a play on light - but I don't think that would be suitable for ours.

1. Plain Colour Fill
2. Linen Fabric
3. noise-added version.

Personally? I prefer 2, because it will be way easier to match the colours that way - but it's up to you.

Kiri, interesting info on the TXMT, I'm interested in the science as well :)

About the paint, I only see one swatch of color and I really can't see any texture to it. I mean it doesn't appear completely matte, but I'm sure I don't see exactly what you want me to see  ???
Title: Re: Project Discussion
Post by: celebkiriedhel on March 19, 2013, 12:40:49 AM
That's exactly it - it's doesn't appear completely matte, but it doesn't have a noticeable texture. um - let me post up a full size (that's a 50% version) with a just a fill next to it to make sense.

In fact - what I'll do is post up all three so it's clearer what the choices are.

That's types 2, 1, 3
As you can see - they're all the same colour - but the ones at either end, add a little diffusion so it's not matte. Do you remember simorphor from Sims1? She used to do that with her walls, and I loved them so I did them for sims2. Of course that was back in 2004, and I'm not attached to the process now. :D It has a slight gradient from top to bottom, to kind of work on the idea of light coming from above, and there's a noise of 5% added to give it it's not quite colour-fill difference. It does however seem darker (as does the linen texture) because it has the textural details which scatter the light, and you'll notice if you look at it for a while, your eyes tend to move over the wallpaper, rather than just look in the same place - that's because there's things for your eyes to just perceive. The Linen texture does this too, but it's more obvious.

(and to be honest? It's easier to match colours with the same underlying texture).

Also - other defaulters

Hafiseazale - some wall, floor and fence defaults (http://hafiseazale.livejournal.com/21019.html)

Is there anything with her defaults that you do or don't like? (As a learning thing for us :D)

Hey! I'm still interested in doing the Moroccan collection, is there a time frame we're shooting for?
That collection is full of exceptions o.O
If I end up guessing wrong on things, please feel free to ask me to change it - no ego! Or you can change it if I'm just not getting it - no ego :surrender
There's a lot of different metal for the Moroccan lighting, what other colors are we using besides the antique tin?

Hokadk47

We're are creating texture-only defaults for every single buy and build object in the game. It's a fairly awesome project. We're also intending to include templates for them for recolouring joy for all.

We're using Kate's 100 Fabrics for the default fabrics, a combination of Kate's Woods, and Michelle's AL woods for the woods, and some other stuff for metal.

I'm doing the Wallpapers and Build section. Kate's working on seating and surface, and will be doing other Buy mode.

Shastakiss - Go for it! Love to see your version of the Moroccan

We have no time frame as far as I know; no stress needed for any of us  ;)

Metal priority: After the antique pewter (did it say tin?), I like your metals from your lamps- brass, pewter, iron, copper-rust, verdigris? Would any one else like a different order? I'm fine with compromise!

With metal - do you want me to use them on the windows where the windows are metal, or use the woods first? Or indeed the colours from the fabrics? (Thinking of the Ergo build, and the shopping window from Basegame).

I think I've got all the Hex numbers for them now.
Title: Re: Project Discussion
Post by: shastakiss on March 31, 2013, 03:31:58 PM
Okay, thanks for the metals list! I dragged your pewter swatch over to my desktop and it said antique tin :blush
And Kiri, that's a good question about windows being metal or wood or maybe even plastic (ergo set I'm looking at you)! We'll see what Kate thinks but I'd go with your instinct. I know the bg shopping window has metal and wood textures so do both?

And I'd love the hex codes! I love making palettes in GIMP and it's good to be consistent :omg

I was doing this for another project, so not the right colours Shasta, but it was what made me ask the question in the first place.

It was actually a good test run for the build things, and finding the colour matching. Of which, the basic answer is you can't colour match outside under strong light - shade and inside is fine. And I really need to learn how to do a shader file.

For all build items, I'd like to change the priority with white wood/metal as number 1. Metal for items that are obviously metal and shouldn't be wood, wood first for anything that can be wood would be my choice. Matching white build stuff is my biggest default wish  :flowers

Impressive set, Kiri! It looks really good, if not colors I'd use often. Perfect for anyone needing brights  :)

I haz 2 questions and hope it's ok to ask them here: Do any of these already exist as just recolors? If some do, I'll find them.. if some don't: Could I use some of the textures to do recolors?

While I love what you're doing here and will be using half-ish of what's already done, some of them would work better as plain, old recolors for me.

Maria, to answer your first question, Michelle has done a lot of the AL wood recolors and shared her wonderful textures for this project. Her originals are posted at Leefish and MTS. So they are available and I really recommend them  :wub

However, I'm pretty sure they all use the TXMTs of the original Maxis objects, resulting in the exact same textures not matching in game (the quaint desk and club desk were really off). That drives me crazy, so I'm giving all my defaults new TXMTs that do match each other and I had always planned to make recolors to "finish out" the missing 8 woods and 12 colors for the items.  It's a giant undertaking and will take lots of time.

If you would like to make recolors from anything I've posted that's not Michelle's (anything fabric, or not AL wood), I'm good with it. I'll post all the textures I've made if you'd like (or you can just extract them if it's easier). Let me know if there's any BG item you'd especially like done and I'd be happy to move it up the line.

I've always felt that people would pick and choose what they wanted to replace and if they should want to use my packages to put in their own textures, that's fine with me, too. All the TXMTs will already match  :)) I'd love thanks if anybody does use them, because I find it mind-numbingly boring to make them.

Ohhh.. I know all about Michelle's AL recolors. My downloads folder is bursting with those. I was mostly thinking about furniture with fabrics since I really like the way your defaults look. Silly me- I actually like some of the Maxis textures and don't want to replace all of those. (I've also got some defaults that I like.) So recolors are called for in some cases. :)

There's no need to post any textures just for me. Since it'll be awhile before I get around to doing any recolors, I can just extract whatever textures I want to use. (With thanks and credit for those, of course.) Thanks for the offer to move something up the line- at the moment there's nothing that really sticks out for me. But if anything catches my eye, I'll keep that in mind. Unless you're interested in getting curtains done? I do have defaults for the cafe curtain that I like, but I wouldn't say no to any of the others being defaulted with your fabrics.

I actually need some curtains myself, so I will move them up. I like some of the maxis textures, too. I just want to pick and choose the ones to get rid of. Some of these defaults are "complete the set" ones since other people may hate ones I like and vice versa.

@Shasta- snagged the metal textures and quietly slunk away...

Ooh! I'm getting ready to start (finally!) on some of the Moroccan pieces and wanted to see if my approach will coordinate with your ideas.

I'll be colorify-ing everything using Kiri's hex codes for colors, and for woods I'll need some hex codes too. I can get them using the eye-dropper tool on the wood swatches which I'll be happy to share if any one decides to colorify some wood too, so we can be consistent. Or if Kiri wants to provide hex codes for the woods I'll use those. I'm very keen on our pieces being consistent!

Now I'll also be changing TXMT settings to match the Jonesi blanket if it's a color and Buggybooz' basic kitchen counter if it's a wood, right? Is there a specific TXMT we'd like to use for metals or should I just use the blanket?

Please let me know if this is correct... I'll use the sofa/loveseat as an example, it has 4 cushions and three frames. Here's what I think is supposed to happen:
cushion defaults: twilight blue, burnt almond, asparagus, ink wash
frame defaults: AL medium, white, AL dark
cushion recolors: toffee, cardinal
frame recolors: black, AL light, cherry
add'l cushion recolors: twilight blue, burnt almond, asparagus, ink wash
add'l frame recolors: AL medium, white, AL dark

The armoire is a good example of what I mean by colorified. I hope the tone-on-tone will coordinate well with pieces that actually have the textures replaced like Kate is doing but also have a little exotic flavor like Moroccan pieces should have?
Actually some of the lighting in that set looks pretty close to the antique tin  ;)

Speaking of lighting, would anyone be interested in lampshades and lamp glass priorities being white (snow or cream), off-white (I like wheat), dark grey/black (ink or inkwash), and 3 other colors someone else could choose? Or should we stick with twilight, burnt almond, asparagus... ? I keep stressing consistency but I really only use white, off-white and black lampshades. Well, leopard print too, ha!

Shasta. I'm not sure what's going on with Kate - I think real-life is consuming her at the moment. So I'll answer your questions and I'm sure that Kate will be OK with my choices. :D

The blanket won't be good for the metals, because it doesn't have the same texture quality - it will dull it down. What I would suggest is to pick an EA metallic thing - and then list up the TXMT here, then we'll all use it.

Tone-on-tone is perfect - I love it.

I haven't done the woods in hexes yet, so if you want to do them, feel free.

For the lighting - white, off-white, black sounds great as the first three, then go for twilight, burnt almond, asparagus as the last 3. That way we get the most useful ones, and we have some consistency.

I think we can skip the leopard print on the lighting...  :P tehehe

Psychic friend! I was just working on this yesterday, thank you for the help  :)
Lampshades and lamp glass, how about:
1. Kate's snow 2. toffee 3. inkwash 4. twilight 5. asparagus 6. burnt almond

and for metals my pewter and Kate's pewter are too similar so how about:
1. Kate's pewter 2. old brass 3. cast iron 4. rust 5. verdigris 6. ?

As far as hex codes for the woods, I might not have any. I'll probably "colorize" instead of "colorify." I "eyeball" colors a lot o.O And the "colorize" numbers will be different almost every time, but it'll still be (hopefully) consistent.

Thanks again for the response!

Hi, I've been following this project and I think it's coming along nicely. If you need a extra hand for anything just let me know. I love fiddling and poking stuff I probably shouldn't poke. I also know how much of a project this can be. Don't get me wrong I love my defaults but I'd also love to have those TXMT files. I've poked at some and fiddled with them myself but I've never looked at another packages file for it. Maybe I should go do that.

It's so great to see people working together on a project like this. :)

Shasta,

That sounds fabulous. I think the lampshades and glass , and metal choices are fine.

To be honest, what I tend to do, is use the base wood and then use a shading and/or overlay texture to give the different colours. (I expect similiar to your tone-on-tone wallpapers). If you use the colourify or colourize or standing on your head and pixel-by-pixelling it, I don't think it matters as long as they standardise across the range. Moroccan furniture and build is fairly unique and as long as they all match, we're good. :D

Hafiseazale -

I've looked at your defaults and downloaded them, thought they were lovely - I don't see why our defaults can't mix and match. :) I'm doing all my defaults as non-defaults as well so it makes them way more mixable and matchable too.

Although I have as yet to post any of them up. I have posted up the non-default set of some build over at Leefish, since Lee was very kind and made me a new door and window for my orphanage. ( Leefish LaFenetre add-ons with Kiri recolours (http://www.leefish.nl/mybb/showthread.php?tid=4769))

I'm not sure where Kate is up to, so it's a little difficult to know what I can assign you that won't be doubling up with her work.

I could give you some of the wallpaper paint bitmaps to do - but those are just the non-defaults. There are about 1700+ of them, and I'm about 2/21 making up the defaults. This is, however very, VERY tedious work and probably not what you'd like to do.

Do you have a particular Base game set that you like? It looks like Value and Club are pretty much done, and Morrocan is for Shasta. How do you feel about doing Art Nouveau collection? That one doesn't look to have been touched.

Hafizeale - if you give me your email, I will send you a colour batches' worth and the bits and bobs you need to know for the creating of. Then as you complete them, send them back and I'll send you the next batch. Alternatively I can send 2 or 3 colour batches worth at a time - up to you.

There are 295 walls in each colour batch, and 9 collections to create for each colour batch. It takes me about an hour and a little bit for each set.

I should warn you - I do rename all the walls, so none of them have the silly number/character name. I do have a process for that that's fairly simple, but if you have your own method of renaming, that works too.

I'll also send you the ones I've already done. So you can play with them and see how they go.

WANT.

Shasta, that is freaking lovely! I can hardly wait for these!

This is an amazing project! Nice work, everyone!

Kiri, my email is [email protected]. You may send as many batches as you like. I have a renamer program but I also do a lot of my work in SimPE so it's easy to rename walls that way as well.

Shasta, I love to help. I think more so because I know just how much work goes into a project like this. It can be a bit overwhelming doing it all by yourself so the more hands in the pot helping so to speak, makes it easier. The Morrocan set is looking fantastic by the way.

(What should I call you?)

Hafiseazale - I have sent you an email with the asparagus set in it for you to play with.

The second email is still loading up.

It has 3 colour batches - Yahoo has a limit of 25Mb and 3 is 22Mb.

I've also included a couple of text files for description, name layout, price.

Hi, everyone! I'm so sorry to have been away- real life is overwhelming right now and I'm not getting anything done! It's probably going to stay hectic until school ends in June. Family and work are both claiming all my time. I'm so happy you all are continuing with this project. I've basicalliy got some more base game seating and surfaces, plus loft curtains to post and I'll try to get them up soon.

Kiri, I agree with everything you've said!

Shasta, the Moroccan set looks awesome and I am happy with your color choices (leopard can be a non-default option  :) )

Hafiseazale, Wow! I'm so thrilled to see you here! Thanks so much for wanting to join in!

I hope to be back working with all off you soon  :hug

Kiri, most people call me Hafi but you can feel free to call me Sarah. It doesn't really matter to me. I've gotten the first mail, for some odd reason hotmail sent it to the junk bin.  o.O

Oops! I should've been clearer, sorry! That pic is of an older set of recolors I did, I was just using it to show the tone-on-tone thing. I'm actually not going rogue and doing defaults in twig  :))
Kate, you've already done so much, please don't worry about being a little absent for a while. Real life happens! Hope things calm down for you soon.

No worries Kate - you take all the time you need - you've already done a huge amount, so it's only fair that you get to spend some time on real life. :hug :hug
I'm happy to hold the fort to keep things moving. I'm going to be posting up some default doors once I've done the pictures. :)

Sarah - it was probably because of the links - for some reason hotmail doesn't think real people send links! :D The second email hasn't been sent yet - it took yahoo/my internet about an hour to load, and I went to bed in the meantime. I'll send it off today.

Shasta - It's an awesome set. I really do need to download your blog. :D

Kiri, I kind of figured that but you know hotmail is a little picky. I'll be waiting on the next link. I think I've had about enough of mudbox today.  (You really should download Shasta's entire blog. It's amazing! hehehe)

Kate, real life comes before the internet! Wait? What? Okay, all kidding aside taking care of real life stuff is more important than anything else.

Sarah - It's now sent. I hope hotmail lets you have it! :D

I've really only started playing again since the beginning of last year, so a lot of the new blogs have popped up that I still have as yet to download.

Hey! I finished all my textures  :woot
And I failed completely at the TXMT part :/

The screenshot is one of Kate's defaults using Jonesi's blanket, could someone tell me exactly which lines need changing in my files?

Also, Kate, did you have a method or did you just go through each individual TXMT resource changing whichever lines needed changing?

Also, lighting!
what about glass (ie the Moroccan table lamp)? What base should we use for that TXMT?

What do I do if a lamp has a lit TXMT and an unlit TXMT? A lot of bg lamps don't have lit and unlit textures, so does that mean the TXMT is what makes the lamp look "lit" in game?
Should we just choose the Moroccan table lamp glass as our base for all other glass since it already has a lit and unlit TXMT we can refer to if any other glass lamps require lit and unlit TXMTs? Also should we chose a metal "base" that came with lit and unlit TXMTs too?

Obviously unlit would use our bases: Jonesi's blanket for fabric shades, and bb's basic counter for woods, but what do I for a lit fabric shade or a lit wood base?

I thought I'd just brave my way through it and not worry too much about lit and unlit TXMT stuff but I really got confused. :idk

The ones I've been changing to make them match:

deprecatedStdMatInvDiffuseCoeffMultiplier
reflectivity

stdMatCoeff

stdMatSpecCoeff
stdMatSpecPower

I've just changed them by hand, and haven't bothered with anything else.

I think using the moroccan lighting lit/unlit works.

There's a really easy way to make sure the TXMTs match.
First, some prep work:

You open the file of the object that has the TXMT you want- let's say jonesi's blanket.

R-click on the TXMT line and extract to a folder- I named mine TXMTjonesiblanket

You will be using this file to Replace the TXMT in the file of the object you want to have match.

Now open the file of the object you want to match: here I'm using the default file for the colonial sofa:

Click on the TXMT that you want to match (in this case I've clicked on the first of the fabric TXMTs- bluesilkpattern)

Go down to the plug-in view and highlight the file name. Copy it to a wordpad/ notepad document, because you will need it later.

Now (still in the plug-in view) go down and highlight the stdMatBaseTextureName and copy it to the wordpad doc.

(This also shows a line for cMaterialDefinition- however, this is always the same as the filename without _TXMT added, so you really don't have to copy it separately).

You are now ready to replace the original TXMT.

Go back up to the top and R-click on the TXMT for bluesilksilkpattern and choose REPLACE.

You will be asked what you want to replace it with, and you will open the jonesiblanket TXMT folder you previously made (or any other TXMT you want to match) and click on the XML.

This box will show up and you will click yes.

Now all you need to do is rename some things. If you do them in this order, it saves having to re-copy and paste multiple times, but they can actually be replaced in any order.

First, since the properties tab is already open, go down to the stdMaterialBaseTextureName and click on it. It will currently show the info from jonesi's blanket. Paste in the original name from your wordpad doc. COMMIT.

Now, click on the FileList tab. Click on the name in the large left-hand box and it will appear under Filename:. Paste in the same stdMaterialBaseTextureName.

Now, look under Blocklist, at the filename line there. Copy the original filename from your wordpad doc and paste it over the jonesi one. COMMIT.

Click on the cMaterialDefinition tab. Highlight where it says Definition, and paste in the original filename and backspace to erase the _TXMT. COMMIT and save the file.

You have now succesfully replaced the old TXMT with one that will perfectly match that of the object you wanted, in this case- jonesi's blanket.

Let me know if this is too confusing and I will try to find time to do a proper tutorial  :)

Oh thank you both for the help! :blowkiss
I did do some export / import stuff but it doesn't work for for everything even though I was careful about keeping the right stdMatBaseTextureName. Anything with a see-thru texture (the Moroccan sofa with the lattice wood for example) turns black if something gets changed, I'll be much more careful for batch no. 2 and hopefully I can figure out what that mystery something is fairly quickly.

And Kate, I know you're a little swamped right now so screenshots with detailed instructions, so nice of you to take the time to make them :blush

If you change it from blendmode:none to blendmode: blend? I think that will fix the black issue. (check the txmt before you change it).

Also - you need to be careful using Kate's methods for objects that are not the same as the deco - eg. Fence, doors, etc - because they have extra variables that the deco objects don't have. It's just a matter of double checking the variables before replacing it.
Title: Re: Project Discussion
Post by: amythestfenix on May 27, 2013, 01:12:52 PM
Kiri's right about the extra variables, you should definitely check first. It's usually best to pick an object that is similar to the one you are using. For example,  I use jonesi's blanket for fabric, and just for fabric. I use buggybooz's clean kitchen counter for wood furniture and objects. Both of those have been quite satisfactory for most items.

Hi hi, I vanished because I was working on my medieval neighborhood. Sorry about that. I am working on the other stuff, I promise.

Shasta, with things like the moroccan sofa and using Kate's method you will have to change one extra line. The line is stdMatAlphaTestEnabled. You'll want to change that from 0 to 1. This allows the game to recognize that it has see through parts. If you look on the moroccan sofa before you pull in the other TXMT file you'll notice that that line has a 1 instead of a 0. Anything that has see through bits must have this line changed or it'll look a bit wonky in game.

I mostly do mine Kiri's way and haven't had any problems so far. Plus, it also keeps the lines that you are not changing in the original state so you don't have to figure out where you went wrong when something comes out blocky or black looking.

I forgot to mention that my jonesi blanket TXMT, etc. have already been changed to have stdMatAlphaTestEnabled set to 1.  :blush I change that on so many meshes, I hardly remember that they weren't originally set that way.

Hi Sarah - It came in last night, but I only got to see it this afternoon. Been doing some real-life Ikea object-making  :))

Half way through making a TARVA dresser, and made 2 BILLY bookcases for the bedroom. Also hung a curtain between the bedroom and bathroom (no door), and a new shower curtain that has lots of colours and fishes! :D

Not ready to recolour the TARVA yet - I wish it was as easy to recolour as it is in the sims!

(Getting ready for my sister to visit - first time in over a decade).

Okay I just wanted to apologize for not getting the Moroccan collection done yet! I'm sorry I've been so tardy with this :blush I really have done the hard part (textures) and I have a list of all the tweaks I need to make to get everything done! And after cij stuff, this will be my next thing to finish. I know there's no deadline and y'all are very relaxed about the project but I'm excited and ready to finish my part, this is such a great idea and everybody involved is so nice :)
August will see the Moroccan collection!

bump!
I pm'd Kate with the Moroccan collection buy defaults and recolors, I'm sorry it took so long :blush

For lighting (glass and fabric shades) the color priorities I used were:
snow
inkwash
toffee
twilight / burnt almond (one particular fabric shade had two-tones)
asparagus

For metal:
kate's pewter
yeti cast iron
yeti old brass

I think I read for build objects we want white wood as priority one? Please let me know what priorities 2-6 are and I'll get started on the Moroccan build mode. Gah I hope I don't take as long on these as I did for buy mode  o.O

My turn to bump!

I pm'd Kate with the Art Nouveau set. I wasn't sure if I was meant to touch build or not so I left it alone.

I hope I got everything sorted right. I'm sorry it took me so long get it done. I guess I get sidetracked easily.  :wacko

If Kate hasn't gotten it up in the next week, send it to me and I will put it up. I have uploading privileges. :)

I've been doing all the build but Morocco, so I think it's ok.
