Title: 2009 Winter Holiday Gift: Blue Christmas Living
Post by: amythestfenix on December 13, 2009, 12:48:33 AM
I told altanna I'd do a blue Christmas set for her, so here it is!
You get:
Jonesi's bed blankets (http://sims2artists.com/index.php?topic=3335.0) from BlackPearlSims (6 patterns, 1 shown in room on my Moune pillow slaves found here (http://sims2artists.sublimesims.net/smf/index.php?topic=1821.0) )
Parsimonious (http://www.parsimonious.org/furniture2/deco/k8-The_Cushion.shtml) cushion (3 designs)
Square BV Travel Posters from Clutter-a-holic (http://lmhwjs.wordpress.com/) (3 designs)
BV Travel poster
Helga's bread and teapot deco from her Green (Living) Kitchen (mesh included, I've renamed it so I could find it easily)

Gold frame recolor for BV poster found HERE (http://www.nectere.net/smf/index.php?topic=1825.0).

Deb, these are from SnarkyShark's Sofa of Substance Squared set which I've recolored in multitudes of color here (http://www.nectere.net/smf/index.php?topic=1801.0). I've put my Moune slave pillows (using the the same color Jonesi Blanket texture from here (http://www.nectere.net/smf/index.php?topic=1766.0)) on them. I love the set, which has 2 others linked in repository fashion as well. I just wish the legs were mix-matchable; I keep meaning to go and request, even though that means I'd have to redo all 64, plus the handful of prints I've never gotten around to posting  :))

Lovely set, Kate  :love :love :love

This blue stuff really is elegant, nice and calm - and look at the fireplace, it is beautiful. where do you hide this room in RL ?

I think it is possible to make a fix and split the mesh into 2 subsets without changing all your recols. Or I can make a slaved version - slaved to the original fabric and Campagne dresser chambre regarding the legs. Would you like that ?

Kind regards, Helle

Kate -- thanks. I already had those and just didn't recognize them. Now I'll have to dust off the folder and load them!!!!

And, Helle, I think that would be a lovely idea!!!!

I want to say yes Helle you can.  :)  Create two subsets in the mesh, and have both subsets in the shape point to the same texture.  The fireplace that I did recently did this.

Thank you, Helle; I really appreciate your offer! I already asked Snarky if s/he would do it or give permission for it to be done, so let's wait for the answer.

Michele, is there some trick to linking those textures? I tried doing that for the Avalon Nora cushions, because I wanted both subsets of the mesh to take Jonesi Blanket textures and I never could get it to work. When I asked Debs (Sailfindragon) to slave her Mezzo cushions to the blanket, she couldn't get it to work right either, so they are single subset, instead of 2, each pulling the texture.

I understand how to slave, I've done it successfully, so I'm always really irritated when I can't figure out why something's not working the way it should. I also hate blue thumbnails, when the object is actually pulling the texture correctly  :mad

I didn't think there was a trick.  :huh  I know with normal multiple subsets you can easily link to one texture.  I wonder if that two subset part  morphs into one when slaved to the same texture.   Well when I work on those curtains I will double check.

Gorgeous recolors!  :love  May I ask where you found the recolor for the tree?

I'm glad you like them! The tree (present replacement) is here (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=33066) at MTS.

I wish I owned this room in real life, although white would be so impractical!

Helle, I got a reply from Snarky saying it's okay to improve the sets, so I sent you a pm about it. Let me know what you think  :flowers

Wow, I LOVE this room!! (I adore all your "blue christmas" stuff... I think I even mentioned already I love blue ;-))  :thx

Just one question - or, well... a request? - it seems that Tempted Sims have gone (why am I always this late *sigh*) and I don't know what they said about sharing, so... uh... would it be possible to upload their recolor or maybe even do them yourself? I only dare asking because you said the main work are the textures and those you have already, so.... pretty please?  :blush

Tempted Sims is now here (http://temptedsims.webs.com/sims2downloads.htm), but I didn't see the gift recolors, so I'm removing the reference from the main post.

I'll see what I can do about making some, but while I have the "textures" for this set, I don't have TXTRs for the gifts yet because I've never recolored those objects before. BTW, do feel free to ask for things- I'm just explaining this because I thought you might be interested (and I'm a teacher, so I'm always sure people want to learn about stuff)  :)

Most of the time when people say "textures" they mean a specific design or pattern- like a wood grain, or a linen weave, or a print (like the snowflake design or the holly one). Sometimes they mean the TXTR they've made for an item. Every item you recolor has a TXTR; a "texture" file or picture that tells the game where to put the colors/patterns/etc. on the object. For some items, this picture is as simple as a square or rectangle of pattern (jonesi's blanket or the Campagne dresser). Others are very complicated. Whenever I make a complicated TXTR, I make a template of layers for the object (lots of people will call these .psd layers because they use PhotoShop) that makes all recolors after the first much faster and easier to do. I keep my TXTR files for all the objects I've recolored, so if the item gets lost, remaking is pretty simple (like the White Witchery stuff).

Ah, I see :-) Thanks for explaining - you're right, I'm always curious!
(Wish my kids were too... when I'm explaining something in more than one or two sentences they get impatient and just say: "Yes, I know, I know, I know....." even if they don't. Little rascals. *sigh*)

I'm so happy you're considering to recolor some gifts!  :wub Please don't hurry yourself, I have no problems waiting!
And about asking for things... honestly speaking that's more of a problem for me, (in RL too)... but now that you've encouraged me I might really do it again sometime  :), thank you sooo much for this kind... "offer"? (Don't know if that fits... it wasn't a real offer but I don't know a better english word)

I'm so glad I found this forum and your boards stuffed full of goodies - and especially with such awesome support!!  :blowkiss
